The I Am Approach
Child-centred. Evidence-informed. Grounded in understanding.
Every child experiences grief differently.
At Hilary's Heart, there is no expectation for a child to grieve in a particular way. Our approach creates space for each child's individual experience while drawing on established grief theory, counselling approaches and specialised childhood grief training and practice.
What Informs Our Practice
Humanistic & Child Centred
Creating a safe, respectful space where the child's individual experience, is seen, heard & valued.
Strengths-Based
Recognising and building on the strengths, relationships, interests & resources already present in a child’s life.
Grief Informed
Drawing on contemporary understanding of grief, including Continuing Bonds and the Dual Process Model.
Emotional Awareness & Regulation
Building awareness of emotions and practical ways to respond to big feelings
“We had a lot of big feelings with nowhere to go and now she has a toolbox of knowledge that will support her for many years to come. The program is wonderful and we were so grateful to have found you.”
